Too good to get more photos

One horse down

With Daniel sending in his usual text, "just changing nappy, be there in ten I decided to go out at "the sock" (below) even though "south sock was looking tempting (above)
When Dan arrived he paddled out at sock only to drift to "north sock" (below) He managed to get a few but the trusty old sock seemed to produced the goods more consistantly.
Eventhough we were "one horse down" (Thommo) he did report in from a week at the Dulla. He said he forgot to get a photo but lucky for us he is quite a talented artist.

Byron Bay

As usual every year the sock becomes very quiet as the lads part for their little piece of indulgence elsewhere on the planet. I ventured to our usual place of choice, Byron Bay and this is what we were greeted with on day one.

This is probably the best I have ever seen main beach in my 30 years going there.

Second day was much smaller but it didn't stop Nitro from smashing it up.

Found a new past time for Thommo. I reckon he could play either of these instruments.
Later in the week Macca and Gonzo, Sockers from QLD came down for a play. Dick giving Fergal a run (above) and Macca tucking into an optimistic backdoor (below).

Saw a few bands including Baskery (above) and Sneaky Sound System at the Beach Hotel and The Beautiful Girls at the Great Northern. Check out a song by The beautiful girls below. Good band.

The pass was also dishing up some reasonable waves by the end of the holiday.

Movember

The call from Thommo/Seabreeze was 3 foot and light northerly. Well at first glance it was stuggling to get to a metre but the occassional second wave of the set was going close. We were tempted to pull up stumps and go for a Chai Latte but Thommo had to have a last session for Movember. It turned out to be the right call.

Eventhough Dan may not look it (above) he still knows how to trim the small stuff (below).

Check this out. I didn't get a shot of a flying saucer but I did catch Thommo drinking water. Who would've thought.
Thommo leaning into a reasonable second wave of the set.
After the morning session Dick and Thommo decided to check out "The Break" and "The Hoodoo Gurus" that night at Sharks Leagues. The Break are a combination of the muso's from Midnight Oil and The Violent Femmes playing surf music. Check out my fav below.

My Favourite Guru's Song

Live action from my iPhone (average audio but check out Thommo at the end of the Gurus.

Well done lads. A great send off to Movember for another year. Changing the face of men's health.

Going solo

With Thommo (The King) taking the family south for the weekend there was no call of see you at "the sock". Without a prompt Dan and Dick were still keen to don the neoprene or at least I thought. Dan had to stay at home and groom his mo. Anyway as I rolled up I was greeted by a very small but clean wave.Unfortunately I had selected the wrong board from my quiver. It was longboard heaven. Its a shame the king missed it but he did report in with a reasonable session from the Dulla.
The sun skims across the bowl.
A couple of locals gladly filled in for Tank, Watto's, Reid and Dan. They trimmed, danced and sole arched their way through the morning.

5 O'Clock Charlie

Thommo had sent out the usual call which saw 5 lads responding. Unfortunately two of the five had a false start but worked out OK in "the end". With the swell turning out to be a bit bigger than predicted, and the tide nearly high the call was to go north.
As the shadows grew shorter we moved further south which became very fruitful. Eventhough it was a bit fat the session was well worth the effort.

The waves cleaning up as the morning rolled outThe King is cooked.
The Sock was a hive of activities ranging from the dog walker to a fly by from 5 O'clock Charlie.

Seabreeze gets it right

What a beautiful spring morning. Nothing like cleaning out the cobwebs of a Melbourne cup day with an early session. After Seabreeze.com.au predicted 4 foot and off shore breeze it was spot on. Unfortunately the tide was correct as well which meant at 6:30am it was still a bit fat. Because of Corona brain I left my memory stick at home so all we get is an iPhone shot. Catch ya next week. Don't forget to support Movember.
