South TOD

With Thommo, Wato and Reid getting a start on Dan and I they were first to be disappointed at the size of the swell when they rocked up at the Dulla. Lucky I had packed the trusty old Mark Warren surf atlas which screamed out, “Bendalong”. So when we scouted the call we were greeted by some glassy fat “A” frames which turned out to be a good way to start the weekend.
Unfortunately the locals thought it would be a great way to start their weekend as well.

Another day at the office.
A game of cards is always a good way to round off the day. Dan said his hand may be rubbish but it should be good enough to beat the rubbish he's up against. After he won cards he said I'm not going to bed til I see Dickie dancing in a silver suit. So here it is.

Classic: You am I, Berlin Chair.
With a lack of swell in the Dulla area we headed back up the coast to check out Green Island and Manyana. I don't think this Manyana business will be floated on the Australian stock exchange in the near future.

There were a couple of locals out on the mid beach left hander so we decide to suit up and join them. It proved to be a better decision than we initially thought as the session turned into a fruitful 2 hours.
Dan bottoming out on a small glassy right.

Yours truly heading into a sucking shore section.
Wato toying with a little lip action.

With the locals getting out it left the touros to fight amongst themselves. Reid choosing the rights above and Dan preferring the lefts, below.
Oops, looks like Wato prefers the lefts as well. Thomo chose to float out the back for two hours. At one stage we had to ward off a Japanese fishing vessel.

Saturday afternoon is always a good opportunity to reflect. Reid and Daniel made sure they made the most of quiet time.

It's always pleasant kicking back with a beer and watching an old surf flick while on tour. Dan dusted off an old classic.
On the Sunday it was agreed after a breaky and quick wave search that we would pack up and move north to find more swell. With a quick check in at Bendalong it was decided that Werrie Beach may have more to offer, and that it did.

As we pulled over the headland we could see that there was a nice little protected 3-4ft wave rolling around the point. After Wato did his usual presenting to Thommo (above) and a brief board meeting (below) the boys got amongst it.

Thommo opened his account with this nice little left, redeeming himself after his Saturday performance and proving to all the skeptics that he can stand up.
Wato opted for the less consistent right, but made the correct decision on this occasion.
Dan dancing back on the Aussie flag to execute a backhand toe turn.

Thommo had raved about this magical break at the Dulla called the "golfie". Well after 3 and a half hours driving down the coast we were greeted by the expections of our minds. A glorious fat left and a hollowing out right. With an hour until dark we had a special twilight session.
After the Thommo surprise he took us for a Sea Salt Schnitz which is the Servicesmans club special. 9/10
Next morning we were greeted by a good swell as evident at Race course but decided to go North
Dick was leaving unusual tracks with his Uggies. Must be made in Oz.
Since Golfie was booked by a Board Riders contest we headed even furthr north to be welcomed by a perfect three foot wave for ourselves at "the wally".
What are you looking at mate. Is this your board.

Proved to be fruitful

Giving the sponsors some airtime.
Eventhough the right was working the North Wally left was looking OK.
After the morning session we decided to check out Manyana and Bendalong
Thommo is always good for spotting seagulls. "Look Dick there's one there. Watto, Did you see it?" "Yes Thommo"
Manyana and North Manyana were looking the goods. All part of the excusion. Back in the bus boys.
We endind up surfing North Bendo. Probably not the best choice but another experience for Dan.
After a few light refreshments and the Sea Salt special it was the dawn of a new day.
